“Trompe l’oeil” is a French term that means “trick the eye”. The idea is to draw something that will look 3D from a specific angle. [1]

For example, this swimming pool (drawn on the sidewalk)…

I don’t know how this artist does it, but one comment I read explains how to do it with a computer projector. The idea is to draw a sketch of the image you want, then project it from from the angle you want people to see it. Then, draw over the projected image. [3]
